BEIA – Business Events Industry Aotearoa

BEIA is a nationwide organisation that can be described as a directory for conference and event venues across New Zealand. I was assigned with the challenging task for creating a website that would serve as a digital interface with a primary objective of finding and exploring over 500 suppliers. The second goal was to create a userflow to facilitate searching and planning for the audience a much easier task as compared to their previous collateral – printed books.

To begin the process I first establish some basic visual guidelines for this brand around colours, fonts and iconography. We then identified the core structure for the website considering their audiences and came up with the information architechure. I the designed the homepage to create a visually appealing design that captures every pillar of their audience and creates a starting point for all the core user journeys.

One of the goals of the website was to create a user journey that will allow the website’s audiences to easily find a venue that they need based on their requirement across different criteria like location, number of guests, proximity of the venue, the style and level of the venue etc. We created a “Planning Tool” on the website to offer this solution.

Within the huge directory of suppliers that are featured on BEIA – there are different levels and categories available. We came up with an intelligent grid solution to address this – the grid comprises of different layouts of the cards to define the different listing levels as well as identifies the grade of the supplier using ribbons. There are also some built in spaces within the grid for advertisement blocks that serve as promotional material as well as back up grid fillers as necessary.
